How to Book the CELPIP Test: Step-by-Step Registration Guide

Before You Book: What You Need
Gather these items before starting the registration process to avoid delays.
Valid Government Photo ID
A passport, permanent resident card, or Canadian citizenship card. The name on your ID will be used for registration and must match exactly on test day.
Credit or Debit Card
Payment is required to confirm your booking. CELPIP-General costs $290 CAD plus tax, and CELPIP-General LS costs $195 CAD plus tax.
Know Your Test Type
Decide between CELPIP-General (4 skills, for PR and Express Entry) and CELPIP-General LS (Listening and Speaking only, for citizenship).
Step-by-Step CELPIP Registration
The entire booking process takes about 10 to 15 minutes online. Follow these six steps to secure your test date.
Create an account at celpip.ca
Visit celpip.ca and create a free account. You will need to provide your full legal name exactly as it appears on your government-issued photo ID, your email address, and a password. Double-check your name spelling because it must match your ID on test day. If your name contains accents or special characters, enter them exactly as shown on your ID.
Choose your test type
Select either CELPIP-General (all four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) for permanent residency and Express Entry, or CELPIP-General LS (Listening and Speaking only) for Canadian citizenship. If you are unsure which version you need, check your specific immigration program requirements. Most applicants applying through Express Entry, PNP, or PGWP need CELPIP-General.
Select a test centre and date
Browse available test centres and dates in your preferred city. Popular centres in cities like Vancouver and Toronto fill up quickly, so we recommend booking at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance. You can filter by city, date range, and available seats. Weekday test slots often have more availability than weekends.
Complete payment
Pay the test fee using a credit or debit card. CELPIP-General costs $290 CAD plus applicable tax, and CELPIP-General LS costs $195 CAD plus tax. Payment is processed immediately and is required to confirm your booking. Keep your payment receipt for your records.
Receive confirmation email
After payment, you will receive a confirmation email with your test date, time, test centre address, and instructions for test day. Save this email and add the date to your calendar immediately. If you do not receive a confirmation within 30 minutes, check your spam or junk folder and contact Paragon Testing if needed.
Prepare your ID for test day
Make sure you have a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID ready for your test date. The name on your ID must match your registration name exactly, with no discrepancies. We recommend checking your ID expiry date well before the test. If your ID will expire before the test date, renew it in advance.

ID Requirements for CELPIP
Your ID is checked at registration and again at the test centre. Any mismatch between your registration name and your ID will prevent you from taking the test.

- Valid passport (any country)
- Canadian permanent resident card
- Canadian citizenship card or certificate
- Canadian provincial or territorial photo ID card
- Valid national identity card with photo
Important: Name Must Match Exactly
The name you enter during registration must be identical to the name on the ID you bring to the test centre. This includes spelling, accents, hyphens, and the order of your given name and surname. If your ID shows "Jean-Pierre Tremblay" but you register as "Jean Pierre Tremblay" (without the hyphen), you may be turned away. If you have recently changed your name, bring legal documentation of the change along with your photo ID.
Test Day: What to Expect

Arrive 30 minutes early
Test centres require you to check in before the scheduled start time. Late arrivals may not be admitted and will forfeit their test fee. Plan your route the day before and account for traffic or transit delays.
Bring your valid photo ID
You must present the same government-issued photo ID that matches your registration. The name, photo, and signature will be verified. Expired IDs are not accepted under any circumstances.
Leave personal items at home or in your car
No phones, watches, bags, food, or drinks are allowed in the testing room. Most centres provide lockers, but space may be limited. Bring as few personal items as possible to avoid delays at check-in.
Expect a computer-based test
The entire CELPIP test is completed on a computer. You will type your Writing responses and speak into a microphone for the Speaking section. If you are not comfortable typing, we recommend practising on a keyboard before your test date.
The test takes approximately 3 hours
CELPIP-General takes about 3 hours to complete, including a short break. CELPIP-General LS takes about 1 hour. You cannot leave and return during the test, so plan accordingly.

- Set a test date that gives you enough preparation time, but do not delay too long if you have an immigration deadline
