CELPIP Writing Templates: Email and Survey Response Structures
These template structures cover both CELPIP Writing tasks. Task 1 (email) requires you to match formal or informal tone, while Task 2 (survey response) tests your ability to build and support an argument. Learn the framework, practice with real prompts, and adapt the structure to any topic.
Task 1: Email Writing Templates
Task 1 always provides three bullet points to address. The structure below ensures you cover all three while maintaining the right tone for your audience.
Formal Email Template
Use when writing to a boss, company, official, or stranger.
Dear Mr./Ms. [Name], or Dear [Title],
State the purpose of your email. Reference the situation from the prompt. Address the first bullet point naturally.
Address the second and third bullet points. Develop each with at least one supporting sentence. Use transition phrases between points.
Summarize your request or main point. Include a call to action.
Sincerely, / Regards, / Respectfully, [Your Name]
Informal Email Template
Use when writing to a friend, family member, or close colleague.
Hi [Name], / Hey [Name],
Start with a friendly opener. Reference why you are writing in a casual way.
Cover the bullet points in a conversational tone. Use contractions and casual vocabulary. Share personal feelings or opinions.
End with a friendly wrap-up or next step suggestion.
Cheers, / Best, / Talk soon, [Your Name]
Task 2: Survey Response Template
Task 2 asks you to express an opinion on a topic. The key is taking a clear position and supporting it with developed arguments.
Paraphrase the survey question and clearly state your position. Do not copy the prompt wording.
State your first reason with a topic sentence. Add a specific example or explanation. Show how this supports your position.
Present your second reason. Optionally acknowledge the opposing view and explain why your position is stronger.
Restate your position using different wording. Tie your arguments together into a confident final statement.
